The Media Launch Pad is a programme designed to develop real-world skills across a wide range of media disciplines, including Photography, Video, Sound, Design, and Digital Media Publishing.

This work results in a diverse and professional body of creative work, showcasing the skills and experience developed throughout the programme.

What an Opportunity!

Work on exciting, real-world media projects in partnership with industry clients. Most projects take place on location in Kerry, with some studio-based work at our state-of-the-art Digital Media Centre at Kerry College’s Monavalley Campus.

15 aspiring media professionals will work as part of a three person media production team. Each participant will have a defined role within the team.

Who Should Apply?

  • Real World, Real Work: Be part of a professional production crew. Spend your time producing high-end content for real-world clients in our state-of-the-art studios.

  • Tiered Project Experience: Progress through increasingly complex productions from technical refreshers to high-stakes commercial briefs. Build a robust portfolio.

  • Just-in-Time Training: Get the edge with daily micro-training in mobile journalism (MoJo), studio-level video, photography, and social media strategy.

  • Paid Placement: Transition directly into the workforce with a 3-month paid industry placement starting in April 2027.

Entry Requirements

Overall:

  • Open to applicants who can demonstrate a high technical baseline and a professional creative vision. 

Minimum:

  • Applicants must be 18+ years of age on entry to the course.

  • QQI Level 6 award, or equivalent, in media production or a related subject.

  • For those who do not hold the minimum qualification, evidence of media production experience is required. 

  • Competent written and spoken English (evidence of CEFRL B2 required).

  • Non-EU/EEA applicants must have permission to work in Ireland.

Desirable: 

  • Flexible to work non-standard hours. 

  • A full driving licence. 

Present a portfolio of media work as part of an admissions interview to include: 

  • Two digital media products (examples of media work produced) demonstrating an aptitude for creative thought, interest in story and producing creative content

  • A personal statement in a 2-minute video (MP4 format); or 200 typed words (PDF format). The use of AI is prohibited.

Letters of reference from an employer, client, college, or university can be submitted as part of the application process.

Employment Opportunities

Getting a job in the media production industry can be tough — it’s a competitive field with lots of talented graduates. Employers are usually looking for people who not only understand the theory behind media production but also have hands-on experience. Having real production credits and a portfolio that shows off projects you’ve worked on with real clients can make a big difference.

Working Hours

  • Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 4.30pm

  • Friday 8.30am – 1.00pm

As the needs of individual projects may extend beyond these working hours, a high degree of flexibility will required from participants in relation to working hours. This may on occasion include weekend work.
